Sedation & Anxiolysis St. Louis
No matter how well informed about a treatment you are, at Schlueter Periodontics and Implants we know that having an unfamiliar procedure can cause some anxiety and stress. To help alleviate this we offer three levels of sedation. Please let us now if you are interested in sedation for your procedure. Dr. Scott Schlueter & Dr. Boszko may also recommend one of these options if your procedure is expected to take a considerable amount of time.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
This can be very effective and requires very little preparation. After the use, the patient may return to work and requires no escort.
Oral Sedation
Before the appointment, a pre work-up is necessary and a sedative pill can be prescribed by Dr. Schlueter & Dr. Boszko. An escort is required after the pill is taken. The patient is sedated and should not drive or return to work for at least 24 hours. The pill can have an amnesic effect and can significantly relax the patient.
Intravenous Conscious Sedation
This is the most effective means of sedation that we offer. It requires an i.v. bag and line that is placed to allow the sedative medications to be administered. This is very similar to sedation for a colonoscopy or other minor medical procedures. A pre-workup is required and the patient is not allowed to drive or return to work for at least 24 hours from completion of the procedure.
