(IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BREATH THROUGH YOUR NOSE, PLEASE INFORM DR. SCHLUETER or DR. BOSZKO)

1. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything for at least 6 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time and no alcohol consumption 12 hours prior to and 24 hours after the procedure.

2. 2 hours prior to the surgery, please drink 2 cups of water. DO NOT continue to drink water up until the surgery.

3. There MUST be a responsible adult (over 18 years old) to escort the patient home. The escort MUST come with the patient and then take the patient home.

4. Minors (under 18 years of age) MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

5. Please wear clothing that is non-restricting to the neck and arms such as shirt, blouse or top.

6. Contact lenses MUST be removed prior to surgery appointment.

7. Please take your prescribed medication(s) as instructed by your physician with less than 3oz of water, unless instructed otherwise.

8. If you are taking an anti-nausea medication after the sedation, driving should be avoided until the medication is stopped.

Patients who have had intravenous sedation should not drive and automobile or operate machinery for 24 hours. It is suggested that the patient should have a responsible adult stay with him/her for the remainder of the surgery day.

NOTE: In the best interest of our patients, the above instructions must be followed. Any instructions not followed may result in the cancellation of the appointment.

Under no circumstances should Intravenous Conscious Sedation be performed if you believe or think that you are pregnant. This could cause sever birth defects or spontaneous abortion of the child. To verify that you are not pregnant or if there is a question a pregnancy test at your personal physician’s office should be performed no more than 24 hours prior to the surgical procedure.
