Periodontics St. Louis

This is a minimally invasive procedure that can results in quite an initial improvement to the depth of the periodontal pockets, which will be reexamined about 6 weeks after the treatment is completed. In order to get the best results and minimize any post treatment complications please read the following information.

No alcohol 24 hours prior to procedure.

Post Procedure Care

(IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BREATH THROUGH YOUR NOSE, PLEASE INFORM DR. SCHLUETER or DR. BOSZKO)

Care of your Mouth: Rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day with warm salt water by dissolving ½ teaspoon of salt in an 8 oz. glass of water. Start home care (brushing and flossing) as instructed. Do not be concerned if there is mild bleeding during brushing for a few days following this procedure.

Discomfort:
Your gums may become tender and any medication (i.e.; Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or Aspirin) that you normally take for minor discomfort should be helpful (we recommend 600-800mg of over the counter Ibuprofen, that is 3-4 tablets, every 6-8 hours). Root sensitivity to cold, sweets, or air may temporarily occur. The use of desensitizing toothpaste for sensitive teeth usually will reduce or stop the sensitivity. If that does not help, please let us know.

Eating: After the numbness has worn off, you may eat as tolerated.

Smoking: Tobacco smoke is an irritant, which delays healing. Refrain from smoking until the area is healed, and strongly consider quitting altogether, as smoking compromises your periodontal health.

If any unusual problems should arise, please contact our office.
